If
there were 33 possibilities to end AIDS, how many would you
fund?
Canada's top HIV/AIDS researchers have submitted 33 grant
applications for this year's CANFAR research grants.
We're blown away. The innovation in this country is astounding.
They
need our support to get the job done.
Despite the fact that Canada leads the G8 in efficacy per
research dollar in HIV/AIDS, talented Canadian researchers
remain grossly underfunded.
CANFAR continues to be the only organization in Canada with
the sole purpose of privately funding research on AIDS and
HIV infection.
Your support has led to important
breakthroughs. For instance, at the Children's
and Women's Health Centre of British Columbia, Dr. Deborah
Money's research provided new insights to guide the safe use
of antiretroviral therapy during pregnancy. These interventions,
when employed properly, can reduce the risk of mother-to-child
transmission from 50% to less than 1%.
And
just this year, Dr. Kelly MacDonald unveiled results from
her CANFAR-funded project: an HIV vaccine candidate that is
able to reduce, and in some cases, prevent HIV progression.
Now,
more than ever, Canadians are poised to end AIDS.
Our goal is to raise $1 million by June to give these possibilities
a chance.
With your generous support we are able to pursue CANFAR’s
mandate of ending AIDS through research.
